Air Quality Standard Policy
Air quality, especially during fire season in Sonoma County, can have a tremendous impact on our health. In an effort to keep our children as safe as possible, we have developed a policy for air quality as it relates to school being in session.
We will use the Air Quality Index (below) from the Environmental Protection Agency as our standard of measure.
Communication:
Teachers will communicate (through text and/or email) in the morning with the current number, the expected forecast, and the immediate plan.
The airnow.gov website is where the information can be found using the zip code at our school’s location (94931).
Thresholds:
If the current number is between 100-124, all activities will be moved inside the classroom for the day.
Be on standby: If the number reaches 125+ when school is already in session, teachers will send a message to have you pick up your child. You will be expected to be at the school within 30 minutes of the text message going out.
If the current number is 125+, the school will be closed.
Workday Considerations:
Based on your own family's preferences, we understand if you wish to keep your child home on a given day that has a current number/forecast between 100-124. If it is your workday you are expected to fulfill your responsibility or find coverage.
